D*** XM Radio

As if I needed more incentive to rip out the stock head unit, this week the XM Radio went out. :3: This has been going on for four days... (I don't use it that much, so it took me a few days to really figure out that something was wrong.)

I get four channels: 000 (Radio ID), 001 (Preview), 174 (some other preview), and 247 (Emergency messages). Apparently this is what it's like if you haven't subscribed. Not only am I still in the 3-month trial period, but I also signed up for a full year already.

I have been on the phone to XM three times. They sent a "refresh" signal once, once I sent a refresh signal on the Web, and the last time the woman did a "deactivate-reactivate," which is supposed to be the next step. Now they say they've done all they can and it must be a hardware issue. I called Honda and they want to look at it.

Has this happened to anyone else? How did you fix it?

I was planning to keep the stock HU with my aftermarket stereo install. Now I'm tempted to cancel XM and get an aftermarket unit.

Wait, don't rip out the head unit. The Xm receiver is mounted at the back on the passenger side, over the rear wheel. Check out item number 25: Link. Every time they refreshed it, have you had the XM turned on? It needs to be to get properly refreshed.

Yes, it's been turned on every time. Thanks for the link... How I wish Honda would just give me the $342 so that I could put it towards a new HU.

Why can you swear on satellite radio?

OEM stereo info

Interesting... I learned from your link that they rate the stock LX and EX/EX-L stereos both at 30Wx4. I also learned that the stock EX-L stereo lists for $733! And that's not counting the XM unit.

My experience with XM... had several units transferred in the last few yrs... anyway if you get the preview and emergency stations your unit is fine.
XM staff I usually have to ask for 3 or more leves of a supervisor (and they fight you all the way) to find someone who knows what they have to do... just keep climbing the ladder... they can fix it!
Also when you get up the ladder and explain your lack of support/service with them... tell them you want compensation... I got 3 free months the last time.... it took over an hours phone call and 3 days without XM!
Good luck

Right, they already re-started my trial period, so effectively I got 10 free weeks.

Do you have any idea what they can do besides de-activate/re-activate? Also, how many times has this happened to you?!

This has happened 3 times since late 2004. They never tell me why other than apologize for the people at the front line (the 1st ones to answer the phone).. mostly they read from scripts and if theres more than a standard activation... they (most the time) can not handle it.

Same goes with the $77 rate I finally got for 1 yrs service. I called and went to several layers of manager... until I got it! I read in other forums where sometimes they can do it on the 1st call..
